It is real gold and it is hidden somewhere out there in New Orleans waiting to be found. An authentic 1788 Spain Gold 1/2 Escudo Coin. 0.0498 oz actual Gold weight with a purity of .917.

HOW TO PLAY:

Step 1: Receive the clues

Two new clues will drop every week, one on social media and here on the website and one at our weekly sponsors place of business.

Clue #1: On-line Drop

the ghost of Jean Lafitte himself (yes he is AI generated) will be posting his clue on TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube & X each week!
all you have to do is like and follow us - the clues will show up in your feed.
the weekly clue will drop at unknown times during that week, so sign-up on-line if you want to get it in your inbox before everybody else.

Clue #2: Bonus QR Clues.

each week a new business will be added as that weeks official bonus clue spot.
you will need to go visit the establishment and scan the unique QR code to get that weeks bonus clue.
this is a completely different style clue available to anyone who wants the advantage and is not necessary to find the coin but just might help. So visit each sponsored businesses and scan their unique QR code today.

Step 2: Study the Clues

Each on-line clue will build on the previous weeks' clue leading you closer to the location of the hidden coin

All on-line clues are archived on this website.
You can go back and re-watch any of them, at anytime after they have officially been released by clicking here!

Each bonus clue will reveal a real photo taken from somewhere in New Orleans connected to the coins hiding place. See if you recognize where they were taken to get you closer to the coin.

Each sponsor has a unique QR code available only at their place of business. The Bonus clues will not be available on-line. You will need to visit the establishment during business hours to scan and reveal the clue.
Follow the special instruction on the Sponsors' clue page for how to find and scan the QR code for each different place of business.
The images will build on themselves and get easier as the weeks go by so be sure to collect them all.

The on-line clues and the bonus clues are separate tracks to the same hidden coin, so one is not necessary for the other but may help. The more clues you collect, the easier it will become to figure out where the coin is hidden. So collect them all for the best chance to finding it!

Step 3: Go Out and Find the Coin

It's out there right now somewhere in New Orleans waiting to be found. Here is what you need to know before you go hunting:

It's not buried in the ground.
You don't need to dig, pry or break into anything to find it.
You will not need to trespass - it's hidden on public property. Follow all posted rules.
The coin will be wrapped in something - and that something has something written on it. Don't throw it away.
If you find it, it is a real Spanish gold coin worth $300. Its yours to keep, but the rest of the Treasure still needs to be unlocked. Continue on to the final step.

Step 4: Call the Hotline to unlock all the treasure!

To the wise and loyal Participant who figures out my clues and finds the coin, you are still one more step away from collecting the rest of the bounty:

The operator will ask you to recite what's written on the wrapping you found with the coin.
Answer correctly and you unlock and win the rest of LaFitte's treasure.

What is the New Orleans Treasure Hunt?

A fun way for everyone young and old to join in on a good old fashion urban treasure hunt. And what better place to do it then in the historic city of New Orleans. The telling of this city bleeds stories of treasure and pirates. Now you can step back in time to the good old days of New Orleans and help find the hidden treasure while learning the history of this amazing city we live in.

What are the rules?

To keep this family friendly and safe, we have a few rules that you must follow:

1. No trespassing. The coin is HIDDEN IN A PUBLIC PLACE. You will not need to go on any private property to find it.

2. You will NOT NEED TO DIG-UP OR BREAK INTO anything to find it. It will be retrievable without having to destroy property.

3. The coin may be wrapped in something, but is clearly visible to the naked eye.

4. In order to verify you actually found the coin, something else will be included with the coin, so don't throw anything out. You will need it to collect the cash bonus. If you can't verify you found Lafitte's gold coin, you can't have the cash. But you get to keep the coin.

How do the clues work?

Every week a new clue will be given out on all our social media accounts. And while we wish we could control the Ghost of Jean Lafitte, we can't. I mean he is a pirate and even worse a dead pirate. But being the gentleman pirate he is, he did promise to release at least one clue a week. So its a bit of a mystery when each week he will actually release a new clue, but he will. So make sure you Follow, Like and Share to get the clues as soon as they are released. As the clues are released go here for a list of them.

Note, subscribe to get clues emailed to your inbox a couple of hours earlier then on social media. Clues may consist of riddles, images and videos.

Bonus Clues are only available at our sponsors place of business and are in the form of a QR code that you must scan when at the location to receive the clue. Each sponsor has its own unique QR code and clue, so you will have to visit all of them to collect all the bonus clues.
